Regular Matches

We hold two matches each month at Del Norte Gun Club.  These matches focus on pistol craft as a majority, but occasionally we will throw in a shotgun or rifle element.  The most important thing about attending our matches is to come with a good attitude and a firm understanding of the four rules of gun safety:
  1. All guns are always loaded.
  2. Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
  3. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target.
  4. Be sure of your target and what is beyond it.
Most of our matches and events are based around everyday carry equipment.  If you have a safe, functioning pistol, a good holster and a few reloading devices you will be able to compete.  We suggest bringing the following to our matches:

  • Serviceable handgun (any duty caliber from 9x19 to .45 ACP are suggested, but you can bring any pistol)
  • Belt mounted secure holster that will retain the pistol while moving.  Equipment rules for IDPA can be found in the rule book.  For the defensive matches we do allow any holster that points the muzzle to the ground.  No cross draw, small of the back, or shoulder holsters are allowed.  We suggest not using a SERPA holster.  Here is why....
  • 3 magazines or reloading devices.  We recommend more.
  • Ammo
  • Magazine pouches that permit rapid access for timely reloads
  • Eye protection/shooting glasses
  • Hearing protection (electronic is preferred but not mandatory)
  • Brimmed hat
  • Weapons cleaning kit
  • Firearm lubrication
